about

“Procrastination feat. Nikki Foster & Harry Weir” (Justice Remix)” is the latest single from Glasgow-based musician, producer, DJ and curator Rebecca Vasmant. “Procrastination” is taken from the “Dance Yourself Free” EP which was released earlier this year on limited (500) numbered 12” vinyl for Record Store Day. The EP is a blend of live and electronic music channelling Rebecca’s passion for Jazz and Broken Beat. Reworking the track, Tony Bowes AKA Justice takes the original on a journey through his signature blend of uplifting Detroit-infused drum & bass and soul-leaning broken beat: “I’ve always had a leaning towards that futuristic sound, and I think it’s served me quite well going forwards,” he adds.

Working with a host of talented musicians and channelling her own passion for Broken Beat and Jazz, the “Dance Yourself Free” EP was recorded in one session of a few hours. “Dance Yourself Free” celebrates the freedom of being in the moment and forgetting everyday stresses and worries; “That beautiful moment when every person in the club is united by the music”, Rebecca explains. “In that moment, we are all the same, we are all happy and we are all free. That’s the Dance Yourself Free moment”. It continues Rebecca’s mission to promote the wealth of talent in the Glasgow music scene through collaboration and creation following her debut album ‘With Love, From Glasgow’. The EP received support from the likes of Jamz Supernova, Huey Morgan, Tom Ravenscroft, Afrodeutsche and Nemone (BBC 6Music), Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland), Robert Elms (BBC Radio London), Jazz FM (including playlisting for both singles) and Worldwide FM, Bandcamp Weekly, Toshio Matsuura, Clash Magazine and Stereofox.

On the EP, Rebecca explores how beautiful and strange humans are, the concept of the study of human behaviour and how the evolution of time has brought about sprinkles of niceness and love amidst the ever-evolving eccentricity of people. As the name would suggest, this theme is highlighted on the original track “Procrastination feat. Nikki Foster & Harry Weir”. “One of the main struggles in our lives as creatives with wonderful complex brains is the dreaded but inevitable procrastination”, Rebecca adds, speaking of the track’s title, inspiration, and hopeful power to help people overcome the mindset. Vocals from Nikki Foster – one of Rebecca’s oldest and closest friends – and a saxophone solo from Harry Weir fuel Rebecca’s production, coming together in a crescendo of musical release, relief and elation.

Alongside releasing music, the Jazz virtuoso is known for being a Worldwide FM host, resident DJ at Glasgow’s Sub Club and label-boss at Rebecca Records. In recent months, Rebecca has joined line-ups at Dekmantel, Otherlands, TRNSMT, All Points East, We Out Here, Manchester Disco Festival, Glasgow Jazz Festival and Rhythm Section’s Summer of Love, both as a DJ and with her Rebecca Vasmant Ensemble.
